Halloween fun in North Devon: Activities & events for all the family

Looking for activities to do for October half-term? Don’t miss our comprehensive guide to all the spook-tacular events happening in the area. There’s plenty to choose from, dig in and make some frightful memories this Halloween in North Devon. Be warned—some of these activities are not for the faint of heart!

Halloween in North Devon

There are plenty of Halloween-themed half-term activities to enjoy during your holiday in North Devon. Throughout the week, you’ll find events at major attractions like The Milky Way, The Big Sheep, Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park, and RHS Rosemoor. But we’ve also dug deeper to uncover some more unique events for you to explore.

Chilling in the Patch: Halloween Pumpkin Picking Fun

Halloween isn’t complete without a pumpkin! We highly recommend wearing wellies to all of these attractions, as it’s likely to get a bit muddy.

Braunton Pumpkin Patch: Open from Friday 25th – Thursday 31st, 10am–4pm. Free entry, dogs welcome on leads.

West Ashford Pumpkin Patch & May’s Amazing Maize Maze: Open from Saturday 26th – Thursday 31st, 10am–4pm. Dogs welcome on leads; cash and card accepted. Don’t miss the maze—wellies are strongly advised for this one!

Woolmers Farm Pumpkin Patch: Open from Saturday 26th – Wednesday 30th, 10am–4pm. Dogs welcome on leads; cash preferred due to signal issues. Enjoy additional activities like tractor rides, a bouncy castle, and face painting. After-dark sessions also available on Sunday 27th & Tuesday 29th October.

Halloween Haunts: Family Fun for All Ages

Barnstaple Pannier Market

Enjoy free family half-term fun at Barnstaple Pannier Market, with events running from 30th October – 1st November. Highlights include a Halloween Disco on the 31st from 4:30–6:30pm and a big-screen showing of Hotel Transylvania on 1st November at 6pm (bring a blanket and chair!). Spaces are limited, so arrive early to secure your spot.

Stoppers Roller Rink

Halloween Roller Disco: Skate to the best tunes with DJ Wonder and compete for prizes for the best Halloween costumes. Running from 6–8:30pm, it’s suitable for all ages. Advance booking online is recommended.

Day of the Dead Festival

Westward Ho!’s 4th annual Day of the Dead festival takes place at The Guillemot Gardens on 31st October, 6–8pm. As an alternative to the usual spooky celebrations, join them to honor your ancestors with pride. Higher Beings Circus will be providing entertainment, as well as some live music. Expect a lively evening filled with piñatas, fire performers, live music, tarot readings, and more, all in a vibrant and electric atmosphere.

Eerie Events: Unraveling the Seriously Spooky Side of Halloween

Torrington Station

Halloween Spooktacular Train Ride: Join us on Saturday 26th October between 10am–4pm for a ride on the spooky ghost train—if you dare! Kids ride for a ‘quid’ when dressed in a Halloween costume. Enjoy stalls and games throughout the day.

The Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon

The Haunted Museum Halloween Heist: Bring the kids for a spooky adventure at Barnstaple Museum. Can you solve the mystery of the missing painting and figure out which ghost is responsible? Hunt down the clues and crack the case!

Thursday 31st October, 5–7pm (last entry at 6:30pm). Pre-booked timeslots available online: children £2, adults £4.

Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway

Ghostly Cliff ‘Wail’ Way Spooktacular: Are you brave enough to ride the railway after dark? Visit on Sunday 27th October between 6–9pm. Normal ticket prices apply. Be ready for spooky surprises, creepy scares, and ghostly fun!

Watermouth Castle

Descend into Darkness: Not for the faint-hearted—Watermouth Castle’s nighttime scare fest runs from Friday 25th October until 2nd November, 6pm–9pm. Packed with jump scares, thrills, and chills, it’s perfect for horror lovers and fright fiends.

Pre-booking is recommended as some dates/timeslots have already sold out. Not suitable for under 12s; under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs allowed.

During the day, the castle is open for families with spooky decorations—though the dungeon is scarier than usual, so you may want to hurry through if your little ones are easily spooked.

If you haven’t yet booked your half-term stay then do explore our North Devon & Exmoor properties, we still have some last minute availability but it won’t hang around for long. Feel free to contact us if you have any specific requirements and we’d be happy to help you find your perfect family break.
