Braunton acts as a ‘gateway’ to the beaches of Saunton Sands, Combe Martin, Croyde, Putsborough and Woolacombe. It is a great base for exploring the area due to its proximity not only to the area’s sandy beaches, but also to the larger towns in the area such as Barnstaple and Bideford.

The village itself boasts a range of amenities including the village’s well-known fish & chip shop, Squires, as well as other pet-friendly unique restaurants, pubs, cafes, independent retailers and surf shops.

If you’re a keen surfer and explorer, you’ll also want to visit the Museum of British Surfing and the Braunton Countryside Centre; so you can immerse yourself in the natural beauty and surf history of the area.

For those seeking active pursuits, it sits directly on the Tarka Trail, which runs through the centre of the village. This is a 180-mile walking and cycle route that stretches from Dartmoor to Exmoor, taking in some wonderful scenery and other towns and villages. The Braunton to Barnstaple section boasts some impressive views of the River Taw which are not to be missed.

Nearby, you’ll also find Braunton Burrows, which is a UNESCO-designated Biosphere reserve and habitat to important flora and fauna. An area of outstanding natural beauty, Braunton Burrows is one of the largest sand dune systems in the UK boasting sweeping views of the North Devon coastline.
