Things to do in Croyde, North Devon

In Croyde’s village centre, there are a variety of pubs, restaurants, and cafes where you can sample the local delights. In fact, there will be no shortage of food on your Croyde holiday, with a variety of pop-up takeaways including pasties and ice cream. Drink as the locals do and enjoy a cold pint at the Thatch or Billy Budds, or if a soothing cuppa and cream tea (cream first!) is more to your taste, a visit to May Cottage Tea Rooms will rejuvenate you again in no time.

No Croyde coastal retreat is complete without a visit to Croyde Bay. This inviting sandy beach is famed as one of the UK’s best surfing beaches, so it’s no surprise to hear there are ample opportunities to book a lesson here with the local surf schools. But Croyde beach has so much more to offer than its surf – the beach is soft sand underfoot with rock pools to discover at either end; or if you prefer, the dunes behind are great for families, couples, and groups of friends wanting to explore.

Away from the beach, there is plenty to explore for adventurers. One of the most impressive walks in the area is along the Southwest Coast Path, which leads to the tip of Baggy Point. This unforgettable walk begins at the National Trust car park and then leads along a narrow pathway, with the ocean directly below and dramatic sea views of Hartland Point.

Our holiday cottages in Croyde are some of the most beautiful places you can visit. A cosy stay with plenty do in the area. Explore the sights, enjoy lots of fun and relaxing activities, Croyde has got everything you could wish for, and more.

Is Croyde beach dog friendly?

Yes – but only during the off-season. Croyde beach is dog-friendly from October 1st until April 30th. Outside of these months, dogs are not allowed to roam the beach, but they can be walked on the dunes.

Is Croyde Bay good for surfing?

Croyde Bay offers some of the finest waves in the South West and is ranked among the top surfing destinations in the UK (and Europe!). No matter what time of year you visit, you’re guaranteed some great waves, with optimal conditions during winter, late autumn, and early spring. Croyde’s waves are pretty steady throughout the day, with the best chances for barrels occurring at low tide and larger waves as the tide rises.
