Things to do in Woolacombe, North Devon

Nestled within North Devon’s AOND (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and boasting 3 miles of glorious beach, Woolacombe beach is a magnet for both locals and holiday goers alike. The vast expanse of this golden oasis means there is plenty of room for everyone, and with great surf rolling in from the Atlantic, the beach is a must for keen surfers.

Away from the beach, there is a whole host of places to eat and drink in the area with sweeping sea views, as well as plenty of surf shops and quirky outlets to mooch around. You’ll also find a general store and a pharmacy; with everything you may need on your Woolacombe holiday and more right in this vibrant seaside village.

Further along the coast, you’ll also find Barricane Beach, a small dog-friendly cove offering a picturesque landscape sheltered between the rocks. It is a great place for rock pooling and family fun, complete with a small beach café to enjoy a Sri Lankan Curry while marvelling at the ocean view.

Is Woolacombe beach dog friendly?

Yes – dogs are welcome to roam the beach all year round with some restrictions in place during the peak season. From Good Friday or April 1st (whichever comes first) until the end of September, dogs are not permitted between the rocks at the north end of the beach and the stream.

Is Woolacombe beach good for surfing?

Woolacombe Beach is one of North Devon’s top surfing destinations, providing excellent conditions for surfers of all skill levels. New surfers can ride smaller waves near the shore, while seasoned surfers can explore farther out to tackle larger and more demanding breaks.
