Things to do in South Molton, North Devon

Faithful to its rich market history, South Molton still maintains a strong presence of independent shops selling a variety of local produce and crafts. South Molton’s history is largely based around agriculture; with the pannier market offering a space for local farmers to sell their goods. This tradition carries on today with the market taking place every Thursday and Saturday, selling a large range of local produce, flowers, antiques, and crafts.

After browsing the stalls, there is also a variety of independent pubs, restaurants, and cafes where you can put your feet up and enjoy a bite to eat. A local favourite is the Corn Dolly Tea Shop with a comforting selection of homemade food and cakes. Once you’ve had a chance to recharge, you’ll want to visit the atmospheric 15th century St Mary Magdalene Church and the 18th century Guildhall, which is also home to the South Molton Museum on the first floor.

For a great family day out, we would recommend a visit to the Quince Honey Farm. Situated on the outskirts of South Molton, this working honey farm shows you the important role that bees play in our ecosystem. Take a tour around the site, marvelling at the millions of bees on site and learning about the inner workings of a hive. You can also take part in honey tasting and beeswax candle rolling. You’ll also want to explore the nature trail, as well as the indoor and outdoor play areas.
