North Devon boasts some of the best views with its dramatic coastline and peaceful countryside, making it the perfect destination for lovers of both gentle strolls and adventurous hikes.
We have put together a list of easy and intermediate walks in North Devon that you can do straight from your cottage. So, you can simply pop out for a walk when you feel like exploring some of North Devon’s stunning coastal views.
Westward Ho!’s Pebble Ridge

The pebble ridge, located on Westward Ho! seafront is a must-visit given the beautiful coastal views that it offers.
This walk would not be suitable for people with low mobility given the rocky terrain. If you wish to see these views, we’d suggest walking either side of the ridge instead of straight across the ease the walk. Equally, you could grab an ice cream, have a short stroll along the ridge, and take a seat on the pebbles. People often build dips in the pebbles for a little seat!
This is the perfect walk for if you are staying in one of our Westward Ho! Holiday cottages given it is not far from your accommodation.
Lynmouth’s Watersmeet

Watersmeet is one of the most popular walks in North Devon for its picturesque views of the river Lyn that flows through Lynmouth. Though not exactly coastal, it is a favourite with locals and tourists for the riverside route. This walk is generally accessible for any walker but not advised for people with low mobility given the uneven ground and sometimes thin walkways.
This walk is a circular walk with a cafe in the middle for you to have a pitstop and something to eat before either heading back the way you came or continuing the circular route. If you want to take a look at the structure of the walk, National Trust has a page for the Watersmeet walk on their website, giving you a full step by step journey.
Just upon your doorstep, you have the rushing river and surrounding wildlife, if you’re staying in one of our Lynmouth holiday cottages then you can’t miss out on this North Devon walk.
Lynmouth Beach

If you are looking for the perfect stroll along the coast, Lynmouth also has a charming, shingle beach for you to explore. A short walk from your cottage, just over the bridge and past the park, you will be greeted with stunning views of the sea. And on a clear day, you’ll be able to see Wales right across the Bristol Channel! The beach is a great coastal walk given the large expanse of sand and the many alcoves to sit in for a bit of privacy if you want to sit and have a picnic or shelter from the wind.
Woolacombe to Putsborough

The longest beach walk in North Devon, if you love the coastal views and the sound of waves hitting the shore, then this would be the perfect walk for when you’re staying in one of our Woolacombe holiday cottages.
The walk is a direct, straight journey starting from Woolacombe and ending in Putsborough. The terrain is relatively easy, given it is simply a stretch of sand, but make sure to wear comfortable shoes given the soft ground.
It is a long walk if you wish to go the whole way, it tends to reach around 1 hour but could be slightly more or slightly less depending on how fast you walk. Of course, you don’t have to go all the way if you’d rather take your time and simply stroll along the coast. Equally, if you fancy a longer hike, then there’s amazing views all the way to Putsborough!
Baggy Point, Croyde

One of the most famous walks in North Devon, Baggy Point offers views of dramatic cliffs and the sea beneath from a view you won’t want to miss. The walk is easy to do which makes it perfect for a family day out. Similar to the Lynmouth walk, it is a circular route that you follow along the coast. To start this walk, you could drive to the Baggy Point carpark or take a 20 minute to stroll to there. Either way, it isn’t far from your Croyde cottage.

Capstone Hill in Ilfracombe

For a short walk with amazing views, head to Capstone Hill near Ilfracombe Landmark. There is a winding trail up to the top of the cliff where you can take in the wide stretch of sea. Though short, it is steep, so bear that in mind before beginning the walk. But the views are worth it!
In the heart of town, you won’t have to travel far from your holiday cottage in Ilfracombe to reach this coastal walk. There are many surrounding areas to explore such as the Landmarks, Bicclescombe Park, the harbour and so much more that this North Devon town has to offer.
