The beauty of the North Devon coast

Why are we blogging about North Devon?

We have lived in this fabulous area of the UK for many years; well actually my wife was born and raised locally and though she left for a short time she soon returned, as many locals do, due to the beauty of the area. A significant proportion of North Devon is either part of a National Park or a designated area of outstanding national beauty (North Devon AONB). So like the many locals, such as my wife, who briefly venture out only to soon return – it’s likely that once you have visited you will want to come back again and again! In my case, I had come on holiday here as a child several times, but after meeting my wife 11 years ago in the pub in Croyde there was a choice between settling here or in the city. Obviously, there was really no choice to be made.

What makes North Devon so unique?

I think it is fair to say that North Devon is an area of contrasts. From the soft sandy beaches of Croyde, Saunton & Woolacombe (to name a few) you can move just 15 miles up the coast & be immersed in the awe-inspiring rugged landscape of the Exmoor coastline, with its sheer cliffs & hidden coves. Then head inland a little following the rolling Devon hills and you will find an array of market towns and villages with various attractions & independent shops to explore; the main ones being Barnstaple, Braunton and South Molton. There is also an abundance of small villages and hamlets in North Devon that are beautiful to explore and admire how unique they all are; such as Croyde, Morthoe and Lynmouth.

There really is so much to discover. So come on a journey with us; let us give you inspiration for your days off or your holidays to North Devon with Cottages on the Coast. Indulge us in sharing our passion for the beauty of our local area (and maybe the odd blog on our other family adventures!). We hope that we can inspire you to create the perfect memories of your time here.

If you’re here on holiday in one of our properties and there is something specific you are looking for, perhaps an accessible day out, a special birthday trip, or perhaps a dog-friendly pub. Then drop us a line and we will always do our best to make some recommendations.
